For Smith School students admitted to the College Park campus, advising is located in the Office of Undergraduate Studies, 1570 Van Munching Hall. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Advising appointments are generally available from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Walk-in advising is also available for Smith School Students who have a quick question or immediate concern. Typically walk-in advising is available from 10:30 am-1pm Mon.-Fri.; however, to confirm the weekly walk-in advising schedule, please consult the posted schedule in the Office of Undergraduate Studies, 1570 VMH, or call (301) 405-2286. At orientation, Smith School students are assigned an academic advisor, and it is recommended that students visit their advisor each semester to ensure that they are informed about current requirements and procedures. Advising appointments can only be made with a student's assigned advisor. For walk-in advising, a student sees the advisor who is on duty at that time. If you are unsure who your advisor is, please stop by or call the Undergraduate Studies Office, 1570 VMH, 301-405-2286 for assistance. Meet the Undergraduate Program Staff
Victor Mullins - Victor Mullins heads the Office of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, and he has served in this position since July 2012. Prior to arriving to the Smith School, Victor served as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs in the College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for nine years. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia; a Master of Arts Degree in Higher Education Administration at New York University (NYU); and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Higher Education Administration at NYU. Upon completion of his Master’s Degree at NYU, he began his higher education career. During his 11-year tenure at NYU, he served in several positions, including Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Affairs at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business. With over 20 years of experience, Victor as been committed to the admission, retention, placement, and graduation of students. He is passionate about student development and enjoys working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and corporate partners in building a strong student-centered community. Victor is married to Nancy Glover Mullins, and has two kids – Justin and Audrey.
Karmin Cortes Karmin is a Maryland native and earned both her B.A. in Government and Politics and M.A. in Educational Leadership and Policy here at the University of Maryland, College Park. Prior to coming to the Smith School, Karmin worked as an Academic Advisor in the Department of Government and Politics and then as a Coordinator in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences' Advising Center. In her free time, Karmin enjoys reading, exploring new restaurants, spending time with family and friends, and traveling to Mexico to visit extended family.
Ebony Fullwood - Ebony relocated to Maryland in the fall of 2002 from Raleigh, North Carolina. She received her B.A. in Public Policy Analysis from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her M.A. in Higher Education Administration from The George Washington University. Before joining the staff at The University of Maryland at College Park, Ebony was an Academic Advisor at University of Maryland University College for three years, and for 4 years prior to that she worked at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in various student services positions. In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies, spending time with family and friends, attending concerts, and watching American Idol and college basketball games.
Brian Horick - Brian is the Assistant Dean and an academic advisor at the Smith School. He has served full-time in an academic advising/administrative capacity at the Smith School of Business since 1993. He has a B.S. in Finance from Pennsylvania State University and a MBA from University of Maryland. Prior to working at UM, Brian worked as an accountant for several years. In his free time he enjoys basketball, gardening, and fishing. However, most of his free time involves attending or participating in activities that involve his three children.
Jason Jones - Jason is originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, but has lived in Washington D.C. since the spring of 2003. He graduated from Indiana University with a B.A. in Spanish & Biology and a M.S. in Higher Education & Student Affairs Administration. He has worked within Student Activities and New Student Orientation, and he was an Academic Advisor at University of Maryland University College for three years. Outside of work, you’ll often find Jason exploring unique restaurants in DC, enjoying theater presentations, standing in line at midnight premiere showings of blockbuster movies, reading peacefully on the Metro, watching Lost or American Idol, or frequenting various karaoke establishments.
Evan Riddle - Evan has come to the University of Maryland from Ohio, where he attained his B.S. in Social Work and M.A. in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University. In his role as a graduate assistant, Evan has had experience in advising undeclared students, mentoring student-athletes, event programming, and teaching a career and life planning course. While away from the office, he enjoys a number of outdoor activities and sports, music, and going out to eat with friends and family.
Gabriele Salinas - Gabriele earned a B.A. in Political Science/German from the University of Western Illinois, and an M.A. degree in Admin. Management: Public Administration from Bowie State University (overseas program). Gabriele is what is commonly referred to as an “Army brat” which means she grew up moving quite a bit as determined by her father’s duty assignments. Today that would probably translate into the term “global nomad”. During that time she grew up mostly in Europe (Germany and Belgium) and spent a few years in Virginia and Arizona. As an adult she had a short stint in south Texas before returning to Germany. She has spent the last 9 years as an undergraduate Academic Advisor for University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Europe in Heidelberg, Germany. During off duty hours Gabriele’s emphasis is on her son and family. She is a people person, loves animals and children and enjoys vacation travel (to date mainly in Europe and the Mediterranean). She is an avid reader (both in English and in German) and enjoys swimming, touring historic sites, nature walks, international cuisine, baking cookies and occasionally indulges in really good chocolate, latte macchiato, seafood and the odd crafts project.
Jeanette Snider- Jeanette hails from Herndon, Virginia. She earned her masters degree in Higher Education Administration here at the University of Maryland, and she received her Bachelor's of Arts in Government at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Prior to becoming a full-time advisor, Jeanette served as a graduate assistant in the Smith School's Office of Undergraduate Studies. Jeanette is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and enjoys spending time with family, friends, traveling and watching the Food Network!
Shady Grove Advisors
Luke Glasgow - Luke is Director at the Shady Grove campus where he manages the undergraduate studies office, assists with academic advising, and oversees the Robert H. Smith School of Business undergraduate programs. Prior to joining the Smith School in 2000, Luke worked for University of Maryland’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Intercollegiate Athletics Department. Luke has spent his entire career in higher education and student services. He received an M.S. in Higher Education Administration from the Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. degree from the University of Baltimore. While away from the office, Luke enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, family and friends. He is proud of his Scottish heritage and attends Scottish festivals in the US and abroad. Luke enjoys swimming, traveling, and watching and cheering for the Terps.
Ranetta Hardin -Ranetta is an Assistant Director at the Shady Grove campus where she advises all International Business, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing majors on their academic program. Ranetta also oversees Shady Grove undergraduate club activities and works on career advising with students. Prior to joining the Smith School in 2010, Ranetta worked for the Global Communities Living & Learning Program at the University of Maryland, College Park as an instructor. She received a B.A. in Economics & Political Science from Lake Forest College and an M.A. in International Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Away from the office you will find her in pursuit of the best food in the Baltimore/DC metro area. She also enjoys exploring green spaces in urban neighborhoods, hiking, camping, and traveling.
Aki Noguchi -Aki is an alumnus of the Smith School of Business, having earned a double degree in Accounting and Marketing. Prior to graduation, she worked in the office of Undergraduate Studies at College Park; then, after completing her studies, she took a position as an Academic Advisor at the Shady Grove campus. After taking a few years to hone her accounting and administrative skills in the private sector, she returned to the University of Maryland to serve as an Academic and Administrative Operations Coordinator for the Smith School at Shady Grove. When she is away from the office, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, attending concerts and sporting events, traveling, cooking, eating, photography, running, biking and dancing.
Assistant Directors of Fellows Programs
Emily Doane - Originally from New Hampshire, Emily completed her undergraduate degree in Integrated Language Arts Education at Cedarville University in Ohio. After teaching high school English in Rockville, Maryland for two years, she decided to pursue her Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at the University of Maryland. During her two-year program, she held graduate assistantships at the University Health Center and the Department of Resident Life, co-instructed EDCP-315 Student Leadership in Organizations, and interned at the University Career Center and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). In her free time, Emily enjoys reading, running, travelling, attending shows at the Kennedy Center, and spending time with friends and family.
Kristin Lariviere - Kristin has come to Maryland from Newport News, Virginia, but grew up in places such as California, Maine, and North Dakota. She earned her masters degree in Higher Education Administration here at the University of Maryland and she received her B.A. in English from Christopher Newport University, where she was involved in a myriad of activities, including the Campus Activities Board, the President’s Leadership Program, Peer Advising, and a semester long study abroad trip to Prague, Czech Republic. During her senior year, Kristin realized her passion for helping students have the best collegiate experience possible, leading her Maryland to earn her Master’s degree in Higher Education. In the Undergraduate Studies Office, Kristin serves as a Co-Coordinator for Fellows Programs, working to create exciting co-curricular opportunities for our Smith Fellows. In her free time, Kristin enjoys reading, running, drinking coffee, and making random road trips to Newport News and Virginia Beach.
Sanket Godbole Sanket grew up in Mumbai, India. He completed his under graduate degree in Electronics and Telecommunications in India. He did his internship at Airnetz Aviation in Mumbai for 9 months as a Web Developer. He is the graduate assistant for the Smith School of Business, Office of Undergraduate Studies. Sanket is a graduate student in the Telecommunications program at the University of Maryland, College Park. He enjoys traveling, hiking, strumming the guitar, listening to music and playing chess and table tennis.
Umesh NimkarUmesh Nimkar is originally from Mumbai, India. He is currently a graduate student pursuing his Masters in Telecommunications at the University of Maryland, College Park. He completed his undergraduate studies in Electronics and Telecommunication from India and then worked for three years with Tata Consultancy Services as Business Analyst. He is currently serving as a Graduate Assistant for the Smith School of Business, Office of Undergraduate Studies. Umesh's hobbies include reading, listening to music, playing Badminton & travelling.
